All of our commissioned interventions are either primary, secondary or tertiary interventions:
- Primary: Targets an entire population or community before any crime or anti-social behaviour has happened.
- Secondary: Targets individuals, groups or areas identified as being at high risk of being involved in crime.
- Tertiary: Deals directly with people who have already committed crimes and entered the criminal justice system.
Interventions
Pol-ED is a programme that enables schools to deliver a series of pre-planned lessons to their pupils, enable forces to engage with schools through a separate of pre-planned lessons and assemblies, and enables local authorities and criminal justice partners to facilitate the delivery of similar pre-planned lessons in their youth settings. The aim of Pol-ED is to create a world where children are safe, and to empower them to shape a positive, inclusive and lawful society for everyone.
Young Futures Prevention Panels (YFPPs) are multi-agency panels designed to identify, assess and refer into effective support young people who may be vulnerable to being drawn into crime. The panels have been implemented by the VRU and involved agencies include, the Police, Local Authorities, Youth Justice Service's, Health, Education, Fire and Rescue and VCSE's.
This programme uses a data driven approach to identify young people involved in serious violence. The overall aim of the programme is to help these young people into the construction industry, by providing them with training and qualifications, before mentoring them towards a CSCS qualification and employment
Focused deterrence is a strategy that aims to identify young people most at risk of involvement in serious violence and support them in moving towards a path of desistance. Individuals identified for this programme are often also highly vulnerable, including to factors such as exploitation. It achieves this by communicating the consequences of violence, providing a supportive pathways away from it and involving the community to encourage reintegration.
RESET navigators work in the community to offer voluntary support to 18 to 25 year olds who are at risk of involvement in serious violence. The navigators work with young people to understand their individual needs, and then offer them a tailored to support plan. They also signpost individuals to further support services in the local area.
