Major step forward for revamp of police station

The modernisation of policing in the west of Southampton has taken a big step forward.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, has been working for several years to improve facilities for officers and staff at the force’s Redbridge station on Walnut Grove.

Built in the 1960’s, the work will bring it up to modern standards – providing officers and staff with state-of-the art facilities that are fit for purpose.

Donna Jones said: “Since becoming Commissioner, the public has made it clear that they want to see a significant boost to police visibility in their communities.

“It’s therefore paramount that officers have the best facilities available to enable them to do their jobs and serve the public successfully.

“The refurbishment of the Redbridge site demonstrates my commitment to investing in the safety of our communities – with the team ready to respond to calls at a moment’s notice.

“This station is a great addition for people living in the west of the city who also benefit from publicly accessible front counters in Portswood, Southampton Central and Totton.

“For those people who can’t get to a front counter, I’m rolling out new mobile police stations – bringing the police to the people and not the other way round.

“This continued investment is part of my transformation of the police estate which is enabling the delivery of exceptional neighbourhood policing.”

The building will provide a long-term operational base in the west of the city for over 50 police officers and staff.

Work is due to be completed by July 2027 to align with the refurbishment of Southampton Central police station.
