Refurbished Aldershot Police Station front counter reflects town’s proud military heritage

06 May 2026

Aldershot Police Station’s newly refurbished front counter has opened to the public.

The new design reflects the town’s proud military heritage and longstanding service community.

The upgraded front counter is larger, brighter and designed to improve privacy and comfort for visitors, while also providing a better working environment for staff.

Funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones, the refurbishment forms part of a wider commitment to keeping policing visible, accessible and rooted in local communities.

A new military‑themed design has been incorporated into the refurbishment, acknowledging Aldershot’s identity as the Home of the British Army and reinforcing the strong bond between local policing and the armed forces community.

The front counter remained open to the public throughout the refurbishment period to ensure residents continued to have face‑to‑face access to the police.

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said: “Aldershot’s military heritage is a huge source of pride, and it was important the refurbished front counter reflected that history while providing a space that feels modern, respectful and welcoming.

“Keeping the station open throughout the works was essential. It sends a clear message that local policing remains a priority, especially for service families and veterans who value trusted, face‑to‑face support.”

As part of the improvement works, outdated external signage has been replaced with a modern design, while the original Hampshire Constabulary sign has been retained as a nod to the station’s history.

The refurbishment of Aldershot Police Station is just one of the Commissioner’s investments in improving public access to police buildings.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading, district commander for Hart and Rushmoor, said: “I’m really pleased that we have a welcoming and modern front counter that also recognises Aldershot’s rich military history.

“While a temporary arrangement meant we retained a front counter provision, I want to thank the community for their patience while this work was carried out.”

The newly designed front counter will be open from Wednesday 6 May, two days before the country celebrates VE day (Victory in Europe Day); the anniversary which commemorates the end of World War II in Europe in 1945.

Aldershot Police Station (Wellington Avenue, GU11 1NZ) opening times:

  • Monday – Saturday 9am – 6pm
  • Sunday 9:30am – 6pm
