Major renovations get underway at Gosport Police Station
17 November 2025
Demolition work has begun at Gosport Police station.
It is part of a major renovation project which will see the site modernised and transformed into a vital policing hub for the town’s community.
The building on South Street closed over eight years ago and is considerably run down and no longer fit for purpose.
The old section houses are being demolished to create more parking space for police operational vehicles which will enable officers to respond quickly to any incidents in the area.
The main building will not be demolished. It will be fully refurbished to include a front counter and welcoming space for visiting members of the public.
It’ll also feature one-to-one rooms, locker rooms, resources rooms, interview rooms, and a kitchen/staff room.
Once complete, the station will house key policing teams including Neighbourhood Policing, CID and District Policing Teams.
Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, said: “I’m delighted to see work finally get underway.
“This building is hugely dilapidated and in need of extensive renovation so a lot of time and energy has gone into the planning and execution of this much anticipated project.
“I’m thrilled to see the builders making a start on breathing new life into this station and restoring it to its former glory.
“These renovations not only ensure members of the public have access to a front counter, they will provide our officers and staff with a better work environment to enable them to do their jobs properly and continue delivering great results for the people of Gosport.
“When I became Police and Crime Commissioner, I promised to increase police visibility and accessibility across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
“We’ve already seen the big difference these front desks have made to our communities, making people feel safer and offering reassurance that police officers are on hand to support victims, catch criminals and get them off our streets.”
The project is extensive and will run throughout 2026.
In July, the PCC announced three front desks are also being created in Shanklin, Bishop’s Waltham and Alton as part of the second phase of her plan to bring police closer to communities and deliver excellent local policing.
