Construction work gets underway at Gosport Police Station

Construction is underway on the multi-million-pound revamp of Gosport Police Station.

Fareham-based construction company Amiri is now on site and has begun the task of transforming the run-down building in South Street and returning it to its former glory.

Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said: “I’ve said before that this development is a statement of intent and to see construction workers on the ground is extremely welcome.

“This building’s been stood empty and unfit for purpose for over eight years and it has taken a lot of hard work to get to this point.

“I promised an increase in police visibility across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and this station will be a jewel in the crown of the police estate.

“My ambition is to have key local policing teams based there once complete including Neighbourhood Policing, CID and District Policing. It’ll also house a front counter and interview rooms.

“I want to reassure the people of Gosport that they will have police officers on hand to help prevent crime and get criminals off the streets.”

This project has been a huge undertaking with demolition work beginning in November. The old section houses have been removed to create more parking space for police operational vehicles. This will enable a faster response by officers to any incidents in the area.

The inside of the building has also been stripped back to enable Amiri to create a modern station which is fit for purpose for both officers and the public.

The Commissioner added: “This is the largest police station I’ve refurbished and anyone with experience of major construction work will know the challenges faced at every stage of the process.

“That’s why I’m delighted we’ve now got Amiri onboard to create a modern new station that caters for the needs of the people of Gosport and helps police staff to do their jobs in the best environment.”

The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
