Michael Lane was elected as Police and Crime Commissioner on 6 May 2016.
Michael was delighted to be elected Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2016 and takes his service to the public and partners very seriously. His promise to all the residents across the policing area is to make people and their families safer.
Michael, a Commodore, served for thirty years in the Royal Navy in a variety of roles leading teams dedicated to maintaining the nation’s protection. He managed multi-million pound budgets through difficult operational and financial times.
After a distinguished military and policy career, Michael took his skills and motivation to further community and public service. While working for Hampshire County Council as a Regeneration Project Officer, he delivered a major community project in which building community engagement and partnerships were essential.
Michael’s career has included supporting key leaders from the Metropolitan Police as a coach on their Commissioner’s leadership programmes. In 2010 he was elected to Gosport Borough Council and was appointed as the Economic Development Chairman.
Michael is a member of Portsmouth Bishop’s Council, a champion of the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friend Initiative. He is married to Alison and they have two adult sons, one daughter-in-law, and two grandsons (so far).
