PCC reacts to potential early release of Vickrum Digwa’s mother
16 October 2026
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones has said releasing murderer Vickrum Digwa’s mother from prison early would raise very serious questions about the robustness of the criminal justice system.
Kiran Kaur was jailed for three years in July for removing the knife used by her son to 18-year-old Henry Nowak.
She was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court for assisting an offender on the night of the murder on 3 December 2025 by taking the weapon back to the nearby family home.
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones said: “I am deeply concerned by reports that Kiran Kaur could be released from prison early, potentially around the anniversary of Henry Nowak’s death.
“Henry’s family have suffered an unimaginable loss and this news will be a huge blow for them, especially because reports have suggested Kaur will be released on or around the anniversary of Henry’s murder.
“I do not see how someone who was sentenced to three years just three months ago is being considered for release already. Kaur was convicted of assisting an offender in a murder case.
“I’m very concerned about the early release scheme criteria and how it is being applied. As Commissioner, this raises very serious questions about the robustness of our criminal justice system.
“The public needs to understand how these decisions are made and why individuals qualify for early release.
“I am writing to the Lord Chancellor today to seek urgent clarification on the matter, the basis on which Kaur may be eligible, and the arrangements in place with Henry’s family.”
